New test stand for heat pumps in operation

Heat pumps for use in a range of applications, from single-family homes to industry and trade, are tested.

With the commissioning of the new heat pump test stand, TÜV NORD has significantly expanded its range of services for testing refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation technology, and can now also test heat pumps for use in everything from single-family homes to industrial and commercial applications. TÜV NORD is thus making an important contribution to the energy transition in the heating and cooling sector. The company has invested 1.5 million euros in the new testing environment.

In parallel with the first tests for customers, the set-up is in full swing. Vera Gräff, Technical Director of the refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation technology testing center at TÜV NORD: “We are looking forward to working with the latest technology in the future. Tests on behalf of customers are already being carried out, with more in the pipeline. Test slots can be requested; the capacities are available.”

The new test stand can simulate performance measurements on heat pumps up to 200 kW at +7 degrees and temperatures down to -35 degrees outside. Together with the other test stands at the TÜV NORD CAMPUS in Essen, a complete range of services has been created in the field of third-party testing for refrigeration and air conditioning technology, including measurement of energy efficiency and noise levels. The focus here, for example, is on efficiency at a wide range of ambient temperatures, as they also occur in installed systems over the course of a year.
