People from all over the world are waiting for next Wednesday: The Rosetta space probe will finally reach the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Researchers expect to learn more about the material composition of comets from the mission, which was initially launched in 2004.

Before the probe was sent into space, experts from Alter Technology TÜV NORD (ATN) worked directly with the European Space Agency and Astrium, tested the electronic components for Rosetta in their laboratories in Spain and Italy. Because of the long period they spend in space and the extreme conditions they have to endure, the components have to fulfil special requirements as regards their ability to withstand radiation, vibration and temperature.

ATN, with locations in Seville, Madrid, Toulouse and Rome, has participated in ESA programmes for more than 25 years now. For example, For example, ATN also selected, tested and certified the EEE components for the Meteosat, the unmanned cargo vehicle (ATV) and the Mars rover Curiosity.
