TÜV NORD at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Trade Fair in Hanover: Helping the environment – measurable CO2 emissions from trucks and buses

Heavy commercial vehicles like trucks and buses generate one quarter of the CO2 emissions in the European Union. TÜV NORD, alongside partners such as the Technical University Graz, has been asked by the EU Commission to work on a method for determining vehicle- and application-specific CO2 emissions and fuel consumption.

Heavy commercial vehicles like trucks and buses generate one quarter of the CO2 emissions in the European Union. However, up to now limit values for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have only been applied to passenger cars and small vans. TÜV NORD, alongside partners such as the Technical University Graz, has been asked by the EU Commission to work on a method for determining vehicle- and application-specific CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. This means that in future it will be possible to know the energy requirements of commercial vehicles and also how CO2 can be further reduced in the interests of climate protection. TÜV NORD will present these and other themes at the IAA Commercial Vehicles trade fair in Hanover (25 September to 2 October 2014, Hall 13, Stand E 14).

“TÜV NORD Mobilität: Treibt an. Fährt mit. Kommt an.” Is the motto of this year’s fair. TÜV NORD is entering the race with a wide range of services – for manufacturers, workshops, fleet owners and developers.

The Clean Vehicle Portal, operated by the EU and technically implemented by TÜV NORD, supports public institutions and others in the purchase of energy-efficient and clean vehicles. This means that useful advice is available at a very high level.

Load securing: TÜV NORD tests and certifies vehicle superstructures and components and also load securing equipment. The vehicles are inspected at the premises of the road haulage company, and any existing problems associated with loading can be solved. The TÜV NORD handbook on the subject of load securing offers a compilation of the most important aspects, including standards and regulations, tips and advice.

Networked driving: The next technical revolution is on its way. Sensors enable greater safety and efficiency. Different vehicles and components can communicate with one another. The Institute for Vehicle Technology at TÜV NORD is providing support at the development level, with TÜV NORD engineers working on the future of goods transportation.

A not insignificant problem: the lighting on far too many trucks is in fact a dark subject. It is not only a question of defective bulbs and lights, but also of non-compliant vehicle lighting equipment. TÜV NORD offers help and advice.

The marketing and sale of new and used vehicles is a unique business. TÜV NORD Mobilität ensures greater transparency in the vehicle trade, performing inspections and providing valuations and expert reports which allow vehicles to be bought and sold with confidence.

“Before vehicle prototypes or products from the automotive supply industry enter the transportation system, our engineers have provided advice, undertaken research and performed tests, and have informed manufacturers on the subject of national and international standards and regulations - for the sake of safety and the environment”, says Reiner Jaspers, Head of Sales and Marketing at TÜV NORD Mobilität.

Further information about the activities of TÜV NORD is available at the IAA Commercial Vehicles trade fair both one to one with our representatives and in presentations for visitors and the general public.
