Trade Hub, Research Location, Smart City: Singapore also stands for innovation and progress beyond its geographical borders. In such a digital economy, IT security has become the prerequisite for new technological developments and the digitalization of this ambitious city-state. Within this context, TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH (TÜViT) has been supporting Singapore since the beginning of February 2020 as an inspection body for Common Criteria security evaluations. From now on, tests by TÜViT's IT Security Test Laboratory under the Singapore Common Criteria Scheme are therefore possible.
This means that the IT security service provider now is able to offer the Singapore Common Criteria Scheme (SCCS), operated by the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) as a third certification scheme in addition to Germany and Japan.
Singapore attained the status of a Certificate Authorising Nation in January 2019 under the Common Criteria Recognition Arrangement (CCRA). Common Criteria (CC), also known as ISO/IEC 15408, is a technical standard applied to the evaluation and certification of cybersecurity products. It is the de facto standard for product certification, adopted by both governments and the industry. The CCRA is an international arrangement for the mutual recognition of CC certificates across 30 nations.
"With the CC accreditation in Singapore, we are successfully expanding our IT security testing and evaluation services and will be able to offer our customers even greater flexibility, customer proximity and performance in the future," explains Hans-Werner Blissenbach, head of the IT security testing laboratory at TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH. "Whether hardware, software or embedded systems – also in Singapore we cover the entire spectrum of tests in all depths of inspection in a wide range of fields such as IoT, automotive or energy supply."
"We are now offering our international customers a convincing opportunity to have their products evaluated by TÜViT according to the CC Standard in the Asian region. We are available directly on site and support interested parties personally on their way to successful certification by the CSA", says Eric Behrendt, Global Corporate Development Manager Asia-Pacific at TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH. "In this way we not only open up access to the local market for resident companies, but we can also act as a regional springboard and 'gateway to Europe' beyond Singapore’s borders, if necessary."
"Our aim is to further expand TÜViT's international positioning. APAC is a clear focus region for us. Against this background, the accreditation as a Common Criteria evaluation laboratory in Singapore is an important milestone that we have successfully achieved within a short time", adds Dirk Kretzschmar, the CEO of TÜV Informationstechnik GmbH.
TÜViT has already supported numerous CCRA member countries with the relevant expertise in how to successfully set up their cybersecurity programs. The IT security service provider also develops national and international protection profiles – for example for smart meter gateways and IoT devices.
Evaluations by TUViT’s Evaluation Body for IT Security under the Singapore Common Criteria Scheme may be launched immediately.
