Stakeholders Meeting on Boiler Division was convened by Department for Promotion & Industry & Internal Trade (DPIIT) – Boiler Division for Stakeholder Consultation at Udyog Bhavan, New Delhi on 19th Feb 2020. This meeting was chaired by Mr. Piyush Goyal - Minister for Railways, Commerce & Industry in presence of Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra, Secretary of DPIIT & Mr. T.S.G. Narayannen, Technical Advisor (Boiler).
Mr. Sandeep Deshpande, Senior Vice President – Inspection Services, TUV India attended this meeting along with over 50 senior representatives of various Stakeholders like NTPC, BHEL, GE, Cheema Boiler, Industrial Boilers, Thermax, Forbes Marshall, etc. Few independent inspecting authorities and the Chief Inspectors of Boilers (CIB) of several states were also part of the gathering.
The main agenda for the meeting was to understand and enhance the benefits accrued to industry under “Ease of Doing Business” (EODB) program initiated few years ago by permitting leading inspecting bodies, as well as independent persons to qualify for inspection of Boilers and their Components.
It was stated that there are over 50,000 Boilers in operation, in India, whereas there are 300 competent persons “Inspectors” with the State Authorities and 172 Competent Persons with the independent inspecting authorities or as individuals. There are 935 Manufacturers of Boilers in the country.
Overall, it was a very business-like and positive approach by the Minister and he asked for a record of all points discussed and follow-up stakeholder meeting within 2 months for review of the same. He also asked the stakeholders to suggest possibilities of further improvements in the system.
